Should I pay for/take the practice exam from PSI?

We hesitate to tell you not to do something to prepare for the exam, but we've had a few former students who have taken the practice exam from PSI and reported back that it didn't really help them and most felt it was a waste of money. There's two reasons why this is probably true.

The first is that it wouldn't make any sense for them to give you questions that were too similar because they make more money if you have to retake the exam.

The second is the questions they use in the practice exams tend to be much older. I think they advertise the exam is made up of previous questions from their test bank, but in most cases the testing companies don't update their samples/practice exams nearly as much as they update their existing exams so you might be looking at a sample question that was written 5-10 years ago (could be even longer). That time difference doesn't necessarily make a question invalid, but the wording of questions can change over time because different individuals might be writing questions today than those writing several years ago.

Most of the students who have reported back to us after taking the PSI practice exam say that the wording on the practice questions were nothing like the actual questions on the PSI exam. So, we'd sum up our suggestion by saying if you think you need to do something different and feel like paying for the practice exam from PSI, it probably won't hurt anything. After all, the better prepared you are and the more you know the better your chances of passing on your first attempt. If however, you are thinking you could take the practice exam from PSI and it would be very similar to the actual license exam, that's not what former students have expressed to us.

P.S. Remember that students in our pre-license, broker, and cram courses have access to hundreds of questions as part of their normal tuition. We include questions from a variety of sources and we also have sample exams built into all our courses.
